The Reason Why Nigeria Was Excluded From 2015 DV Lottery – U.S Envoy

The United States Consul-General, Mr. Jeffery Hawkins, on Thursday, gave reasons why Nigeria was excluded from the 2015 Diversity-Visa-Programme registration.
Hawkins told journalists at the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, that Nigeria was among other countries that had in the last five years, sent more than 50,000 immigrants to the country through the programme.
“As at today, Nigerians have graduated from being under-represented to being a fully well represented group in the U.S.
“There is therefore no longer any need to encourage Nigerians to apply to travel to the U.S. through the Diversity-Visa-Programme. “Already there are too many Nigerians in the U.S. that have benefited from this programme,’’ he said.
The envoy explained that the diversity visa was created to promote countries with low rates of immigration to the U.S. Hawkins said that Nigeria and other affected countries had already exceeded their quota in the last five years.
He, however, stressed that the U.S. authorities would continue to give preference to Nigerians travelling to U.S for visits, business transactions, studies and professional engagements. “All other types of immigration from Nigeria to the U.S, apart from the diversity visa, would continue unabated.
“Also, let me say that the ban has nothing to do with our relations with Nigeria now, and in the years ahead,’’ the News Agency of Nigeria quoted the envoy as saying to journalists. He also dismissed insinuations making the rounds that the move was to reduce the number of Nigerians travelling to the U.S.
The U.S official also said that the development had “nothing to do with insecurity, activities of Boko Haram and other forms of upheaval in Nigeria.” It would be recalled that the U.S. Department of State, banned Nigeria, Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador and Haiti from participating in the 2015 Diversity-Visa-Programme.
Other affected countries are: India, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom and Vietnam.

Osun State has begun offering the Nigeria’s first Islamic bond, taking a major step towards developing an Islamic finance industry in Africa’s most populous nation, bankers said on Thursday.
According to Reuters, the issue makes Nigeria the first big economy in sub-Saharan Africa to market a sukuk, although Gambia has been selling small amounts of Islamic bonds for several years.
Other African countries including South Africa, Kenya and Senegal have been laying plans to issue sukuk seeking to tap into growing global demand for Islamic debt, particularly among cash-rich Islamic funds in the Gulf and southeast Asia.
Osun’s issue of up to 10 billion naira ($62 million) of seven-year sukuk, denominated in local currency, will pay investors a fixed return of between 14.25 and 14.75 percent, according to a prospectus seen by Reuters.

21 year old University of Lagos student Obabiyi Aisha Ajibola, beat 19 other beauty hopefuls to emerge Muslimah Queen 2013. Ajibola won the exclusive beauty pageant for Muslim women which took place today Wednesday September 18th in Jakarta, Indonesia. She received 25 million rupiah ($2,200) and trips to Mecca and India as prizes.

The contestants were all required to wear headscarves, covered from head to foot. They were judged on their looks, how well they recited Koranic verses and their views on Islam in the modern world, in front of an audience of mainly religious scholars and devout Muslims

This pageant was actually staged as a retort to the Miss World pageant holding in the same country. They said the pageant is Islam's answer to the glamorous Miss World Pageant. Congrats to her!

Lola Omotayo fights Twitter fan for insulting Peter Okoye

Peter and Lola
Lola Omotayo has got her hubby-to-be Peter Okoye‘s back anytime – that includes barking back at fans who chastise him on Twitter.
A few days ago, Peter Okoye posted on his Instagram a photo of himself chatting up with some street-side musicians while on his North American tour with Psquare in Canada, a Twitter fan @MillsMusicEnt says Okoye only did that because they were white.
Obviously irritated by the tweet, Omotayo charged back calling the fan ignorant and all sorts.

Read the tweets below…

Paul Okoye of Psquare proposes to his longtime girlfriend, Anita Isama

Paul Okoye has just proposed to the mother of his child, Anita Isama, just weeks after his brother did the same. Paul is certainly following in his twin brother's footsteps, and I won't be surprised if this translates to a double wedding like in their video above, No One Like You.

Not only did Peter and Paul both have children before marriage, their partners are strong independent women.

Congrats to both of them and all the best.

Atiku Says He Bought House For His Mum at 14; But Nigerians Don't Believe Him
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar seems to be in love with controversy and he appears to be adogged fighter in the game. In politics, he has an ample dose of unsettled issues with the ruling PDP, especially now that he is linked to the New PDP.
The other day too, he engaged his former boss, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, in a debate about his eligibility to travel to the United States of America without being arrested for corruption.
However, just as the dust is settling, Atiku on Tuesday stirred a fresh debate on the social media, declaring via a post on his website that he bought a house for his mother at the age of 14.
Atiku, in the website post, claimed that:
Contrary to the belief that he "soiled" his hands while serving in Nigeria Customs Service, as well as during his eight-year tenure as Vice-President; he had a history of genuine "business success."
He said, "It never mattered that I had a history of business success prior to entering politics. It never mattered that from the moment I bought my mother a home as a 14-year-old boy, I was running various businesses to provide for my family."
