Ladies: Fitted Bras Can Cause Neck, Back Aches — Doctor

A medical doctor, Funmilayo Adegbite, on Monday in Ikeja, advised women against regular wearing of fitted bras.
bra

Ms. Adegbite, a Consultant Dermatologist, said that regular wearing of such bras could cause neck and back pains.
“This can lead to shoulder, neck and back pains because the muscle is being constantly strained,” he said.
Ms. Adegbite, the founder of the Skin Ventures, Ikeja, said that constantly pushing breasts inwards could cause circulation restriction, which might damage the chest tissues.
“When women perform activities that require raising their arms above the shoulder level, the weight of the woman’s breasts is transferred from the band around her upper body to the bra straps.
“The straps can put downward pressure on the scapula, thereby turning the shoulders into a pulley and doubling the total downward pull on both shoulders,’’ she said.
She advised that women should wear bras that would not leave marks on their shoulders or under their breasts.
“Give your breasts as much freedom as possible at home and while sleeping, “she advised.

Lagos Urges Residents Not To Panic As The Rainy Season Begins

lagos+flood

Residents of Lagos State have been urged not to panic as they welcome the rainy season, with the government assuring that any flash flood recorded during any rainfall would be temporary, as it had done everything needed to ensure the flood does not wreck havoc in the state this year.
The government also urged residents residing on low line areas to relocate when the intensity of the rains become severe, as the state would not want any resident to lose his or her life or property to flood during the rains.
Speaking while monitoring the mid rain cleaning programme in Lagos Island, Mainland and Victoria Island executed by the drainage maintenance office and emergency flood abatement arms of his Ministry during weekend’s rainfall, Commissioner for the Environment, Tunji Bello, said any flood seen would disappear as soon as the rain stopped, because the ministry had cleaned and dredged primary and secondary channels across the state ahead of this year’s rainy season.

Pastor, Wife Arrested Over Fake Deliverance Fee

images

A pastor, Chidiebere Okafor and his wife Amaka have been charged before Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, over  an alleged fake deliverance a victim was deceived to pay for.
The pastor and his wife, who are from Anambra State, southeast Nigeria, are facing trial for allegedly obtaining $13,000 from Patrick Okoro, under false pretence to cast out evil spirits that prevented him from becoming a  successful businessman in the state.
The couple was arraigned in the court on an eight-count charge of obtaining under false pretence, unlawful possession of charms, stealing and false representation as pastors to defraud the victim.
Recounting his ordeal before the court presided by over by Mrs. Makanju Oshodi, Okoro alleged that the couple defrauded him through a man simply identified as Emeka who contacted him for a business transaction.
Okoro, who sells building materials at 2, Aso Rock Street Ago Okota, Lagos, alleged that Emeka, who is now at large, came to his office to make an enquiry about the prices of some building materials.
He said that after giving him the  cost of the materials, Emeka  said he would need to first consult with his brother who sent him to buy the materials and promised to come back.
Okoro said that on 11 November, 2011, Emeka and his brother invited him to a hotel at Satellite Town, Lagos, where he hoped to seal the business deal but when he got there, instead of negotiating the price with him, they offered him a drink and promised to call him the next day.
“On 14 November 2011,  Emeka and a man called Ikenna,  called me to meet them somewhere.  When I got there, they said they want to transact business with me but they don’t know me well. They said they have a very big project but they don’t trust me enough. They said I have to go with them to a priest to swear an oath before they can trust me,  but I told them that I am Christian and I don’t believe in taking oath.
“Emeka said that he knows a very good  pastor that would pray for us. He said we should go and see the pastor,” he narrated in court.
Okoro said that they took him to the suspect, whom he alleged are fake pastors and did not know that they are a couple.
According to him, when they got to the place, Okafor prayed for them.
Okoro alleged that to deceive him, Okafor first prophesied to  Ikenna that he had $500,000 dollars and N100 million which he planned  to use for the business. But he said for the business to be successful, he needed N90, 000 to buy anointing oil for deliverance from evil spirits.
When Ikenna brought the money, the pastor  told him to bring more money for him to cast out all the demons in him
“By that time,  I didn’t know what I was doing again, because the pastor also asked me to bring $13,000 dollars and N500, 000, which I did,” he said.
Okoro  alleged that on 15 November, 2011, Emeka  called him to bring N500,000, for the deliverance before they can start the business and he did.
He also alleged that on 28 November, 2011 the pastor called him to deposit N280,000 in the bank account of a lady whom the pastor borrowed money from to solve some personal problems, which he also did.
According t him, he later discovered that the woman in question was his wife.
Okoro said he realised that he was duped when he called Ikenna and told him that he needed his money back but he told him to stop disturbing him.
He said when he called the pastor, he also told him that he was not in Lagos.
Okoro said that on 25 January, 2012, he wrote a petition to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police and the police arrested the couple and investigation on the matter began immediately.
He added that because he has the phone number of Okafor and  bank account number of his wife Amaka,  the police could traced  and arrested the couple.
The couple pleaded not guilty to charges and the magistrate granted them bail in the sum of N900,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The matter has been adjourned till 21 May 2013 for continuation of trial.

How President Jonathan deserves a pass mark

I JUST read Mr. Remi Adekoya’s piece in the Guardian of the U.K. entitled ‘Goodluck Jonathan’s report card for Nigeria? Must try harder’ in which he praised President Jonathan for a booming economy but came down hard on him for failing to help Nigeria’s poor.
When Adekoya says “Infrastructure also remains a problem. Without a modern road network, doing business in Nigeria will remain prohibitively expensive and logistically challenging”, he betrays a surface understanding of recent events in Nigeria.a
For example, before the Jonathan administration if you wanted to travel from Lagos to Kano you had two choices, you either went by road or by air. Today, under President Jonathan’s direction, Nigeria’s railways have been revived and a traveller planning the same journey has a third alternative.
He can travel from Lagos to Kano by rail at a cost of N1,500 which is less than $10. It is rather surprising that Mr. Adekoya did not reflect this major development in his piece especially when you consider that Nigeria’s rail revival miracle has received praise from some of the major newspapers and magazines in the West.
Jon Gambrell of the Associated Press had a string of highly syndicated photos recording this feat. But when you think of it, it is hard for someone reviewing Nigeria’s progress from the United Kingdom to have first hand information.

Biggest Planned Armed Robbery Attack In Nigeria

But for Providence, 6 May, 2013 would have gone down in the history of the country as one of the bloodiest days of crime. The would-be perpetrators of the act are now cooling their feet in police net. How were they apprehended?

Accordinated attempt to carry out a major robbery operation in Onitsha, Anambra State was recently foiled by officers and men of the Anambra State Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).
Amos Chieku, Ndubuisi Uche, Chibuike Alakwachi, Ugochukwu Igbokwe and Nonso are five members of the gang currently assisting police authorities to trace the whereabouts of other members still at large.
A couple of weeks ago, one robbery informant reportedly alerted Uche, popularly called ‘I Chop’ of a planned movement of a large amount of money from Onitsha to an undisclosed destination, apparently by a group of businessmen. The amount involved was such that Uche, 31, alone could not handle.
He promptly invited some ‘tested’ hands in the act of robbery to join him in the ‘business.’ Chieku, alias Danga is based in Abuja, but moves anywhere across the country to perpetrate his crime once he is called upon.
Chieku, 23, is said to be good with guns. He is also a dependable driver. Alakwachi, 21, is based in Lagos and is reported to be a former escapee from prison for similar offence. Nonso is said to be the gang’s armourer and also good

Tips For Soothing Dry Skin (solution)

Tips For Soothing Dry Skin

Got dry skin? There are many things you can do to make it smooth and supple.

In many cases, all it takes is making a few adjustments to your daily skin care routine.
Care Strategies for Dry Skin When You Wash

Try these tips for the bath or shower:

Skip long, hot showers. Hot water strips oils from the skin faster than warm water. Long showers or baths actually dry out your skin. Limit yourself to a single 5- or 10-minute warm shower or bath a day.
Use a gentle cleanser or shower gel with moisturizer. Instead of harsh cleansers, go for unscented, soap-free, or mild soap cleansers.
Moisturize while skin is still moist. Pat your skin with a towel after you shower or wash your face or hands, leaving it damp. Apply a moisturizer within three to five minutes of washing to lock moisture in.

What to Look for in a Moisturizer

You don't have to pay a fortune for a good, rich moisturizer. Read the label. Ingredients that may be helpful for dry skin include:

Ceramides. Ceramides help the skin hold water and soothe dry skin. Synthetic ceramides may mimic the natural substances in the outermost layer of skin that help keep moisture in.
Dimethicone and glycerin. These draw water to the skin and keep it there.
Hyaluronic acid. Like ceramides, hyaluronic acid helps skin hold water.
Lanolin, mineral oil, and petroleum jelly (petrolatum). These help skin hold on to water absorbed during bathing.

Be sure to apply sunscreen to areas of your body that are exposed to the sun during the day. Look for a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more that says "broad spectrum" on the label.
5 Lifestyle Tips for Relieving Dry Skin

These strategies can also help make your skin supple and smooth:

Plug in a humidifier at home to help keep skin hydrated during winter months when indoor air is dry.
Wear cotton and other natural fibers. Wool, synthetics, or other fabrics can be scratchy and irritating.
    Drink plenty of water.
Eat omega-3 foods. Essential fatty acids can help fortify the skin’s natural oil-retaining barriers. Foods rich in omega-3 include cold-water fish (salmon, halibut, sardines), flax, walnuts, and safflower oil.
For redness or inflammation, apply a cool compress or an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream on the area for a week. If these don’t provide relief, talk to your doctor.
