Safety In Tripoli Threatened As Armed Protests Continue In Libya

International observers say deteriorating security conditions are becoming a matter of serious concern in Libya as armed protests targeting Libya’s ministries and media in the capital were witnessed in the week.
Reporters without Borders said there was cause for “grave concern about recent violent attacks on Libyan journalists, whose safety conditions are deteriorating drastically” and called on the government to act.
Wednesday made it the fourth day gunmen in heavily armed vehicles have taken control of Libya’s Foreign Ministry, while the Justice Ministry was similarly surrounded on Tuesday and other institutions including the media have been targeted.
Recent attacks included the detention and beating of a correspondent for Al-Arabiya, who was led away from the Foreign Ministry protest and held for several hours. In another example, an employee of an international news outlet was forced out of his car on Tuesday and threatened with a gun.
The national television network was also stormed earlier this week, while several other journalists have reported being held, threatened or abused while covering the protests.
Though armed, the groups say they are protesting peacefully. They are calling for Libya’s congress to pass a law banning officials who worked for deposed leader Muammar Gaddafi from senior government posts.

Nollywood Actress, Chioma Chukwuka fights Vanguard Reporter on Airplane

Like most Nollywood stars, Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha is not given to pretence. She’s always ready to vibrate and return fire-for-fire.
Last Sunday evening was not different. Following the frustration and exhaustion that greeted everyone after the AMAA awards and the endless wait at the Port-Harcourt International Airport, Chioma boarded the evening flight back to Lagos, however something happened!
Vanguard reports that a quarrel ensued between Chioma and a Lagos based female journalist, Yemisi Suleiman (who was trying to interview her), which caused the actress to loose her temper in a manner that attracted the attention of everyone on board.
Chioma claimed that the journalist was rude to her, adding that most painfully, she “called me Igbo Naughty Lady and all that’. I wouldn’t blame her because AMAA brought us together. I can conveniently pay her salary,” she fumed
A colleague of mine just said and I quote “I think Chioma needs to work on her anger issues especially in public…you will recall that she was the same person that disgraced herself even with fellow stars at the Gulder ultimate search for celebrities a few years back.”

Salawa Abeni said, I am not paralysed – Salawa Abeni

As waka singer, Queen Salawa Abeni, plans to release another album, she speaks on the nature of a sickness that  has kept her off the musical arena in the past few years.

About four years ago when Waka Queen, Salawa Abeni, was still very sick, fuji creator, Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, went to see her in her house. As soon as the woman who was in a deep pain saw him, she struggled to say, “Alhaji, am I going to die now?”

Trust Barrister. In his characteristic life-is-good inspiring candour, he tried to rekindle her hope and assured her that she still had many beautiful years ahead of her.

But just imagine how nature can play a fast game on any mortal. Today, the Barrister that was prophesying longevity into Abeni’s life is no more. The waka singer recalled this encounter in Lagos on Friday when she was narrating the difficult experience she went through in the past five years when she went from one hospital to the other, trying to get healing for a sickness that started as a general weakness of the body.
