Fashion Debate: Would You Wear Brightly Coloured Tights?

Coer1
Ok so it’s freezing outside, and over in NYC the skies are poised to dump a load of snow, so it is perhaps little wonder that editors and bloggers alike are looking to add a little warmth to their look. Whether you call them tights of pantyhose, hosiery is a key component of making any skirt or dress winter proof. But if you are fed up of boring opaques, should you be considering adding a little colour with a pair of boldly pigmented tights?
Traditionally we have been staunchly opposed to Crayola colours sprayed on to our legs, but this season’s new head to toe colour look – matching your shoes to your skirt to your jacket to your hat – requires the addition of correspondingly hued hosiery. To help explore this sartorial minefled we thought it might be best to set out a few guidelines:

1. Brown tights are never OK

Catherine Z-J is a big fan of chocolate legs, but we are not. Head to toe brown should be left lurking in the 70’s.

2. Anna Wintour Loves Burgundy

As sported by Anna Wintour in the gallery above is a great colour choice which will work with a host of jewel shades, including navy as well as camel and rust.

3. Red Tights Are Tricky

Red tights as worn by Charlotte Dellal are a bold choice – and definitely not the easiest to wear. We’ve spotted head to toe red on the FROW, but this look is definitely not for shrinking violets (or the red carpet – as Ms Dellal proves!)

4. Mustard’s A No-Go

Mustard tights are seemingly a thing. But we disagree wholeheartedly unless you are under 10.

5. Navy Is An Easy Way In

Navy tights are actually ok. But only if they are almost black and slightly sheer.

6. White Tights..Wowser

So there we have it. Coloured tights are not our first choice, but can look pretty cool as part of the new head to toe colour look. Just take it one step at a time people, ok?
