Farouk Lawan Sacked As Chairman, House Committee On Education

Farouk_523115344
Speaker, House of Representatives Aminu Tambuwal yesterday sacked the suspended Chairman of the House Adhoc Committee on Fuel Subsidy Regime, Farouk Lawan, from the position of Chairman, House Committee on Education.
Tambuwal announced the appointment of Aminu Suleiman (PDP, Kano) as the substantive chairman of the committee as replacement for Lawan, who is currently facing trial for allegedly receiving a bribe of $620,000 from oil magnate, Femi Otedola.
Tambuwal also appointed deputy chairmen for six other committees.
Until his appointment, Sulaiman was the deputy chairman of the committee on labour and productivity. Rose Okoh (PDP, Cross River), deputy chairman of the Education committee had been operating in acting capacity.
Tambuwal said the appointment is with immediate effect.
Farouk Lawan was suspended at a special plenary of the House in June 2012, after billionaire oil marketer, Chief Femi Otedola alleged that the former chairman collected $620,000 bribe from him to facilitate the removal of his companies: Zenon Oil and Synopsis International from the list of erring companies in the subsidy regime.
The House had temporarily stri*ped Lawan of his position as chairman committee on education as well as chairman of the subsidy probe committee pending the outcome of the investigation of its committee on ethics and privileges.
With this development, Lawan who has been in the House since 1999 would remain as a floor member. The ethics and privileges committee had concluded its assignment since last year but has not submitted its findings to the House.
Efforts by our correspondent to ascertain whether the speaker’s action was based on the findings of the ethics and privileges committee were however not successful.
Lawan, is presently being prosecuted for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribe for the purpose of compromising facts on the oil subsidy management in the country.
It was learnt that Tambuwal’s sacking of Lawan may not be unconnected with the resolve of the House leadership to purge itself of anything that might dent the image of the House

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

US socialite, Kim Kardashian plans to book an entire floor of a hospital when she delivers her first child.
The reality TV star of ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ seems to be getting all dramatic and ecstatic as she prepares for the arrival of her baby that is due in July.

According to UK’s celebrity magazine, Daily Star, an insider and a source close to the reality TV star says, ‘Kim is taking the preparations for childbirth very seriously…she wants everything to be perfect and, luckily for her, money is no object.’

‘They (Kim and Kanye) have booked an entire floor at their chosen hospital and her room will be totally sound-proofed before the delivery, she wants all outside influences and noise of traffic muted.’ the insider revealed.

Kim, who obviously wants her child’s entry to the world to be idyllic, ‘plans to reflect the sounds of nature with a trickling water and soothing wind CD. She wants dimmed blue, green and purple lighting as she gives birth,’ the source also added.

Tafa Balogun’s Kinsmen Want Presidential Pardon for the Former IGP too in

Tafa Balogun

Indigenes of Ila-Orangun, the home town of former Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tafa Balogun, have urged President Goodluck Jonathan to pardon their son, Tafa. The people have called on the president to extend state pardon to the former IGP, saying his conviction was political.
The Osun State Chairman of the defunct Justice Party, Mr. Adesoji Adeleke, made this known on Friday. Adeleke, who hails from Obalogbo’s compound, Oke-Jigbo, in Okomo Ruling House, Ila-Orangun, said it was wrong of the Federal Government to leave out Balogun in the state pardon.
According to him, “We are contacting all Ila parapo on Sunday with a view to knowing what next step to take on the issue. His travail is not unconnected with the politics of succession at that time… Is the pardon of a former Governor of Bayesla State, Dieprieye Alamieyesiegha, the sole reason why President Jonathan extended the pardon to some other select individuals? Osun too deserves to enjoy the pardon. We trust that the President will extend the pardon to Balogun.”
Another resident of Ila, Group Captain Raimi Ogunbunmi, also called on Jonathan to pardon Balogun, saying the era of the former IG witnessed unprecedented development in the police force. Explaining that Balogun was a ‘victim of circumstance,’ Ogunbunmi, said it was wrong to jail Balogun at the time.
