Many
had thought Neymar da Silva’s move to Barcelona was a foregone
conclusion. With the recent announcement by Santos that they had
accepted two bids for the Brazil forward, a deal could be struck soon.
Santos
didn’t name the two clubs involved but they are widely assumed to be
Barca and Real Madrid. “Santos FC announces that it has received two
proposals for the athlete Neymar da Silva Santos Junior,” a statement on
Santos’ website read. “Given the offers and condition of the player’s
contract, the management committee of the club decided to transfer the
player. “
Neymar junior and his father are expected in Belmiro to
choose which proposal the athlete will accept.” Neymar’s contract
expires at the end of next season and many had suggested a move to Nou
Camp is as good as a done deal. Meanwhile, the striker seems not in a
rush to make decisions and had previously suggested he would remain in
Brazil until after next year’s World Cup in the country.
“This
is an honour, the happiest moment of my life,” Neymar was quoted as
saying on globoesporte.globo.com. “I will now think carefully about
these proposals. “I will decide with my family,” Neymar added. “I’m in
no hurry. The decision may come out in five minutes, half an hour or
three days.”
Barca have long been on the young Brazilian’s tail,
which makes them the most likely favourite to sign the young starlet
when the family and club finally arrives at a conclusion. The complex
nature of Neymars ownership arrangement, with various investment groups
holding a stake in the player as well as the club means the home hero,
who has spent his whole career at Santos will be up for a very
complicated contract.
His father and his manager Neymar da Silva
Sr. added: “Now we will go home, sit down and talk. We could not make a
decision in the heat of the moment. Let’s talk and see what Neymar
wants.”
