emerging from the national coordinator of the Forum for Justice and
Human Rights Defence (FJHD) and Warri-based lawyer, Ogenejabor Ikimi has
revealed that the sum of N237, 700 million out of the sum of N500
million bequeathed to Delta State has been approved to tackle the menace
of flooding in the state.
Ikimi, who is also a member of the Delta State Committee on the

of Victims made this known in a statement made available to journalists
on Monday, in Warri, Delta State. According to him, the committee had
received the said money.
The lawyer, who said he was not out to run down members of the
committee, called on Deltans, particularly flood victims, to put the
members of the committee on their toes by seeking accountability and
probity at all times.
His words: “As a member of the Delta State Committee on the
Management of Federal Government Fund and Post Flooding Rehabilitation
of Victims and the national coordinator of the Forum for Justice &
Human Rights Defence, (FJHD). I can authoritatively confirm to you that ,
Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, the governor of Delta State, has approved the sum
of N237,700,000.00 (Two hundred & thirty seven million, seven
hundred thousand naira) in the first instance out of the sum of
N500,000,000.00 ( Five hundred million naira) bequeathed to the state by
the Federal Government to enable it to tackle the flood scourge in the
state.
“As I speak with you, the committee is in receipt of the said money
and I make this clarion call on all Deltans and in particular the flood
victims to always demand accountability from members of the committee
since the above has to do with public funds. The essence of the above
call is to further enhance probity and transparency in the work of the
committee and not necessarily to cast aspersions on the integrity of
members of the committee,” Ikimi noted.
