FEMI FANI-KAYODE - A Word For Those That Call Me An Igbo-Hater

Those that call me a tribalist and an igbo-hater are simply misguided and ignorant. Perhaps they do not know the meaning of those words or the true import of their meaning. Those that know me well like you can confirm the fact that I am not a racist or a bigot and that I consider such sentiments as being unworthy of a man of class, good breeding and culture. I am however a firm believer in the propagation of truth and I, like you, appreciate the value and importance of history. Sadly many of our igbo brothers and sisters do not believe in that. History for them consists of only one thing-how other Nigerians have always marginalised them and treated them badly.
If only they knew their own history, where they are coming from, what they used to be and where they were 100 years ago and what their forefathers did to the rest of Nigeria over the last 80 years they would know why they have always had such a hard time in this country. Sadly because they dont know any of these things they cannot learn from it. And if they cannot learn from it they will continue to make the same mistakes. That is why they can come to another mans land and territory and call it their own and when we say ”no” they tell us to shut up and call us tribalists.

ASUP is gearing for another industrial action, which would commence after next week, and would be indefinite.
The union made the appropriate statement on August 13, 2013, Tuesday during the mass protest to ‘save public education’ in Lagos.
“The suspension of the strike will expire next week and up till now government has not done any single thing in the agreement,” said Chibuzo Asomugha, ASUP’s National President.
After 81 days of inactivity in polytechnics across Nigeria, the union decided to suspend the strike following the level of progress made in negotiations with the government.
ASUP said that it suspended the strike to allow the Senate Joint Committee on Education to liaise with relevant government agencies with a view to tackling the union’s demands within one month.
Among ASUP’s demands include the need for constitution of the Governing Councils of Federal Polytechnics; migration of the lower cadre to CONTISS 15 salary scale; and the “worrisome condition” of state-owned polytechnics in the country.
“Government should stop paying lip service to public education,” said Mr. Asomugha. “The closer you get to this people in government, the more you lose hope.”

Lagos Police Gunned Down Two Bandits Trying to Rob Pentecostal Church

Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two armed bandits, who engaged a police patrol team in a gun duel while trying to rob a Pentecostal Church at Meiran, Ijaiye/Ojokoro Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The spokesperson of Ngozi Braide, Lagos Police, confirmed the incident, praised the policemen for effective neutralising of the robbers.
The official reported that the robbers had planned to attack the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) located at Olaniyi Close in Meiran, but their intensions were interrupted by the timely arrival of the policemen.
Sources said the church was holding a special programme when the armed robbers arrived but the swift response of the police patrol teams made it impossible for the armed robbers to attack the Church.
The three police patrol teams that responded to the distress call were said to have overpowered the robbers.
It has been also learned that two of the robbers were gunned down by the policemen, while several others fled with bullet wounds.
One of the church’s security men, who contacted the Meiran Police Divisional Headquarters, which alerted the Lagos State Police Command Control Room, said the robbers arrived the Church on three motorcycles, popularly known as Okada.
The Control Room relayed the message calling on all patrol vans to surround the whole of Meiran and ensure that the robbery was foiled, a police source said.
