The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has said it has
uncovered a plan by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the state to
use a group, the Neighbourhood Watch, to rig the forthcoming local
government election in the state.
The state chairman of the PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, made this known on
Tuesday, during a campaign in Auchi, ahead of the local government
election slated for April 20. He said the party had uncovered plots by
the state government to buy uniforms and arms for members of the
vigilance group to use for the election.
His words: “The PDP has uncovered a plot by the Adams Oshiomhole-led
ACN government to deplore members of the Neighbourhood Watch to
intimidate, harass and obstruct members of the PDP from casting their
votes during the forthcoming election… Our informant also disclosed that
the state government has bought large ammunition for the group to be
used on the Election Day,” he alleged.
Orbih further disclosed that the state PDP had written a letter to
the state Commissioner of Police, to inform him about the plot, adding
that “it is our belief that the Neighbourhood Watch and other bodies
formed by the state government for the purpose of rigging the council
election are not known to the constitution of the Federal Republic of
Nigeria.”
