Introduction

Nelson Mandela Bay is one of South Africa’s important sea ports. The city, the largest in the Eastern Cape, lies on the south-eastern coastline of South Africa. About 1.5 million people inhabit the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality area, making it South Africa's fifth largest city in population size and the second largest in area.
Nelson Mandela Bay is the host city of the national soccer teams from Ghana, DRC, Mali and Niger.

AFCON matches will be played at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. The stadium is named after South Africa's former President, humanitarian and world icon, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, who was born and spent his formative years in the Eastern Cape. The stadium seats 50 000.

Weather

The Africa Cup of Nations 2013 takes place during the months of January and February 2013. Nelson Mandela Bay is known for its sunshine, temperate climate and exhilarating sea breezes. The weather will be hot, with possible wind and/or light rain.
Remember to pack your floppy sun-hats, plenty of sunscreen, flip flops and light clothes.

Greenacres Shopping Centre is a trendy shopping mecca situated in the heart of the city. Take a trip down Marine Drive and stop in at a restaurant or bar overlooking the ocean. Or visit Boardwalk Casino and Entertainment World and prepare to be thrilled.

How to get here

Port Elizabeth Airport is the gateway to the city and province. The city is well serviced by busses and taxis, and you can hire a car once you’re in town.
